The Tempest

The Willits Shakespeare Company brings the Bard back to life with their upcoming production of The Tempest. For two weeks only you can join them as they present this tale of sorcery, revenge, love, laughter, and forgiveness. The Tempest runs December 3-6 and December 10-13 at the Willits Community Theatre.

This comedy invites us onto an island ruled by magic and inhabited by Prospero, an usurped and stranded duke turned sorcerer, his daughter Miranda, and the natives of the isle: Ariel a sprite and a monsterish creature known as Caliban. Prospero sees opportunity to restore himself to power and set things right as a ship carrying his friends and foes from his homeland nears the island. By use of sorcery Prospero brings forth a mighty tempest and shipwrecks the passengers, setting his plans in motion. What might this magician have up his sleeve? Come see as the Willits Shakespeare Company skillfully creates a show not to be missed.

The Tempest is directed by Gregg Hood and the Company Players are: Mike A’dair, Billy Hetherington, Amanda Grace, Tori Perrault, Jimmy Lane, Chris Martineau, Lee Stipe, Justin Briggs, Damian Sebouhian, Adam Williams, Bryan Arnold, Paula Murphy, Nick Murphy, and Jerry Crapo.

Join us Friday December 4 for our gala and enjoy complimentary food and beverages. Also, December 10 we will be donating 10% of ticket sales to Willits Charter School’s Theatre Program.

Ticket prices are $12 Thursdays and Sundays, $15 Fridays and Saturdays, available at Leaves of Grass and at the door. For more information call 459-0895.

Our season consists of:

Summer Youth Camp: Youth ages 8-18 participate in a six week, all inclusive, theatre program. Our instructors focus on creating a safe environment where youth's imagination and creativity can flourish in the multi-faceted and dynamic world of performance. This program runs from beginning of June to Mid July with performances that coincide with our annual Fundraiser, Willits Shakespeare Company's Bard-B-Q and Tomato Toss.

Annual Bard-B-Q and Tomato Toss:

This annual fundraiser consists of a fun filled day geared for youth participation. We provide a delicious BBQ, tasty local brews, 2 stages packed with entertainment, a giant kids area complete with jumpy's, games, and creativity. The Summer Youth Camp performs their show and the instructors with crew take "Tomatos" from the audience. This has been our pleasure to facilitate for our community since 2003 and usually happens the third Saturday of July.

The Willits Shakespeare Troupe:

A culmination of the areas finest performers come together to perform some of Shakespeare's work in it's true bawdy nature. This no-holds-bard performance is a chance for the refined Willits Shakespeare Company members to show their stuff. This show usually runs two weekends in December at our Sister Theatre, The Willits Community Theater.

The Jesters Lounge:

Our version of a late night talk show, complete with house band and zany host. This was created as a community platform, as well as, a showcase to stimulate communication and a chance to present out of town acts to the community. The idea is, anyone can apply to be the host and formulate the show accordingly, as the host wears a mask. This device allows a freedom and character to bring forth community issues or just plain nonsense. The Jesters Lounge is filmed live with a studio audience and later broadcasted on our local cable access channel as well as Youtube.com.
